At Veritus, our team has a Slack channel called “Celebrations.” If I’m ever feeling down, I go in there and it revives my spirit. Why? Because in that celebration channel are phenomenal stories that our team has posted on the amazing results our clients are getting.
I wish I could give you access to this channel so that you could read them all. But I can give you some examples:
“One of my MGOs thought she couldn’t ask for a gift larger than $100,000, but I convinced her that she should challenge the donor to give $125,000. After using Permission-Based Asking the donor decided to give $150,000! The best part of the experience is that the MGO called me and said, ‘I just had it in my head, that the donor couldn’t do more, but your coaching inspired me to go for it.’”
“I had an MLO call one of their Tier A donors who they have never reached out to and had been giving annually $5,000 a year for many years. The donor was so delighted to get a call and hear from the MLO, that during the call the donor upped their gift to $10,000 without the MLO even asking.”
“I had one of my MGOs who has been in fundraising for over 20 years really put up a stink to creating a strategic plan with revenue goals for all their donors when we first started working with them. She fought me tooth and nail on each step…but we completed it. At the end of the year, she finished 25% up over the previous year and retained 99% of her donors. She wrote me this morning telling me how grateful she was that I pushed her to complete her plan and how now she could not think of going back to her ‘old way’ of doing major gifts.”
“I just got off a call with an MGO who has been with the organization for 8 years and she just solicited and received a $1MM dollar gift. The MGO said the best part of her experience was seeing the donor’s face when she told me…it was pure joy!”
“I’m celebrating an MGO who had a surprise $10K gift come in over the weekend from a lapsed donor they qualified the week before. When they called to thank the donor, the donor shared (unprompted) that they were giving again because they had been contacted and now, they knew someone was at the organization focused on donors again.”
“A MGO had a successful series of conversations with a donor who had told him years back that the organization was included in the will for $150k. About six months ago, because the bequest intention was a dollar amount and not a percentage, the MGO asked if the donor was open to revisiting their estate plan given the increased value of land and their stock portfolio. Donor was open to it and wanted time to think and talk with financial advisor. Just heard back, the estate bequest intention is now $500k and they are increasing their annual giving from $15k to $20k.”
I could go on and on and on…
Now, how do these amazing results happen? I’m sharing this to you because, over the years, I don’t think we’ve done a great job of telling you the results of our work with our clients and individuals who have taken our courses. In fact, after showing our clients’ results to colleagues in our industry, many say, “why are you not shouting from the rooftops telling people this?!” Non-profits are dying to get results like you are showing us.”
