Too often, our reports to donors emphasize all the great things the organization is doing, and not enough about how the donor’s gift is changing the world for the better.
This is, by far, one of the best systems for reporting back to stakeholders that I have seen in my career. I share this with you so that you can see a specific example of the kind of impact reporting that is needed in major gifts.
Just thanking and talking back when a major donor’s gift comes in is sort of like saying, in a socially acceptable way: “Hey, thanks for the money. Talk to you when you give again! Don’t expect anything until then.” This is harmful to the relationship.
