One of the best ways to increase the number of your major donors is to create a mid-level program. Right now, in your current database you have donors with great potential, waiting for you to challenge them to become part of your major donor program.
If you can create an environment for your non-profit like I’ve outlined here, you will be able to attract good talent in a major gift officer, even when that talent is scarce.
Are your donors in a giving rut – giving the same amount year after year? Your explanation for why may be pure fiction. They need challenged – they WANT to give more.
I know there is pressure to get cash flowing into your nonprofit. But if that cash comes in at the cost of bringing in new donors, building those relationships and thinking long-term value, you’ll always be chasing cash and not creating relationships… relationships that would be much more valuable in the long run.
