One thing is certain: the year-end push is exhausting. You’ve been busy preparing donor offers, meeting with donors, writing thank-you notes, making follow-up calls—and by this point in the year, you might be feeling a bit depleted.
We feel this, too, and have been talking more about how we can improve our own culture around self-care here at Veritus, not just during busy seasons.
Some of the things we’ve been talking about internally are:
- Celebrating time off
- Being open and honest about capacity and load
- Creating a culture of asking for help
But even if your work culture isn’t particularly supportive of self-care, there are some things you can prioritize to support your own needs throughout the year.
With that in mind, I asked our Senior Director of Learning, Karen Kendrick, to share some tips and strategies for self-care that you can try right now or save for later.
It’s easy to forget that YOU are a critically important part of the success of your organization’s mission. Your work is vital, and you must prioritize your own needs to do it well.
If you don’t, you’re more likely to feel resentment toward your job and lose sight of why you do this work in the first place.
Don’t let your own needs get put on the back burner. Give one of these strategies a try and I bet you’ll see a big difference in your work and life.
